REVIVAL’S FIXER UPPER
We have purchased two houses in the Clairmel area this year and would love to buy more. We renovated and resold these properties in pretty quick fashion to happy new homeowners!
Our first was a 3 bed, 2 baths 1152 sq. ft. house built in 1959. The second was an 1220 sq ft 3 bed, 2 bath built-in 1997. In both houses, we replaced the roof and the central air and made cosmetic improvements inside and out.
Most common in this neighborhood are single-family homes. Property taxes hover around $971 per year. On average, fixer-upper type homes sell for under $100 per square foot and typically list for around $150 per square foot. Home appreciation in this area is up 8.3% in the last 12 months.
There is access to many schools in the Clairmel area for any grade level. Palm River Elementary school, Clair-Mel Elementary School, and Frost Elementary offer K-5 education to young students in the area. Middle-school education is offered at Giunta Middle School and Pivot Tampa. Students can attend high school classes at Riverside Academy and Bloomingdale High School. The University of Tampa and The University of South Florida are just a short car ride from this area and offer college-level education to students. There are a handful of attractions open to the public in and around this area including the Winston Park and Community Center and Causeway Park. The 78th Street Community Library is available for residents of the area to check out books and movies.
In April of 2019, the area hosted a ‘Fight the Blind clean-up’ where residents could bring large debris to a central location in order to clean up illegal dumping sites because “How a community looks can impact how residents feel.”
You can visit the Wat Thai Temple in this area and experience their Sunday market from 8:30 AM to 1 PM. The market includes a number of traditional Thai food stands and offers dishes like grilled pork or chicken on a stick, phat Thai, various chicken curry dishes with vegetables, egg rolls, guiteow, som dom, a wide variety of Thai desserts, tea, and coffee. They sell various Thai fruit and vegetable trees at the market as well. The property is located on the Palm River, with a boat dock where visitors feed bits of bread to dozens of fish and where you can tie up if you arrive by boat. This temple was built in 2007, though a temple has been on these grounds since 1983.
When looking for a great sandwich in the area, we go to Azucar Sandwich Shop. They’ve been serving breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches, pastrami sandwiches, and milkshakes for years and are well known in the area. The most popular dishes on the menu are the Cuban sandwich and the Tripleta. They are a kid-friendly restaurant and have over one-hundred 5 star reviews on Google.
